The Dragon of Light

By Sue J Connor

The night
Darkness,
Embracing
Too tightly,
Squeezed by
The chilling hands of fear
Chilling.

Rage gnawed through,
Burning within,
Casting heavy shadows,
Restless,

Menacing,
As if
Tossed carelessly,
Rough dark waves
Of emotion,
Prevailing helplessness-
Blanketed by sleep.

Daybreak
Smiled tenderly
Upon the waking child,
Reassuring,
Comforting,
She whispered
Silent words;

Your shadow is
A part of you,
You're lost self,
Raging to be seen,
If I take it away,
I'll leave you forever
Searching in vain.

You're shadow
Holds within
The secrets of your soul,
Each one
Preciously wrapped-
Each one
Unlocking doors,
Each one,
Leading you,

Guiding
Towards
Lightness andpeace,
The parts of yourself
You grieve so hardfor.
The child listened, the child
Words deeply
Moving,
Calmed by the truth,
Trusting in their wisdom.

Daybreak asked Lighting up
A question Her shadows,
"For you to embrace the fear of
all the dark within,
What would you need?"
Her hope to be reality,
The child held closely
In the arms of daybreak,
Let herselffeel the warmth
Her mind drifted off-
Into spaces in search of her
answer.

A flash of magic!
There sat a dragon beside her.
Startled,
She began to look harder
The child struck by his bright
colours and aliveness.
Shy at first,
Held him in awe.

Then realising
This to be her answer,
The keeper of herfire within,
she began tofeel
The beginnings of a smile,
Creeping gently up to touch her
face,
It rippled down tickling inside.
Bubblesflzzing
Till there escaped a giggle.
Casting her brightness

towards daybreak
There was a silent
understanding,
She in turn
Placed a tender smile upon
Before fading onwards,
but always to be near

The dragon to held forever
Calming her fear,
Her warmth to he warmer,
Her light to be brighter,
To stand in her
own beacon of light.
